THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a pointed critique of both the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the United Democratic Front (UDF), senior Congress leader K Muraleedharan warned that a third political force could emerge if they fail to adjust their strategies in the upcoming elections. Highlighting a shift in voter sentiment, Muraleedharan noted that voters have overcome their “allergy” towards the BJP’s ‘Lotus’ symbol, citing his own experience in the Thrissur Lok Sabha seat as an example.
Speaking at a seminar titled “K Balakrishnan and Left Politics,” organized by the RSP’s Thiruvananthapuram district unit to commemorate the 40th death anniversary of RSP leader K Balakrishnan, Muraleedharan emphasized the urgent need for the two major political fronts to reevaluate their positions. He revealed that the Congress state leadership is aware of the potential challenges ahead, prompting them to hold a leadership meeting in Wayanad.
“Except for a particular community, most voters in Thrissur supported the BJP. Suresh Gopi didn’t win just because he is an actor, as some suggest. If Rajeev Chandrasekhar had been more active in Thiruvananthapuram four months before the Lok Sabha polls, the outcome might have been different. The Congress state leadership is not complacent despite the election win,” Muraleedharan remarked.
