A New Jersey-based restaurant has prepared the ‘Modi Ji Thali’ dedicated to Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of his state visit to the US later in June. Check out the special thali’s delicious offerings.

By all accounts, the United States is preparing to roll out the red carpet for Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his state visit later this month. Apart from official pageantry, a delectable welcome awaits PM Modi in the form of a special ‘thali’ dedicated to him.

A New Jersey-based restaurant has rustled up the ‘Modi Ji Thali’ ahead of his arrival in the US, news agency ANI reported. The thali, prepared by chef Shripad Kulkarni, consists of an array of traditional Indian dishes like khichdi, rasgulla, sarson ka saag, Kashmiri dum aloo, idli, dhokla, chaanch and papad.

According to chef Kulkarni, the thali has been curated as per the demands of the Indian diaspora living there. The thali also pays tribute to 2023 being declared as the International Year of Millets by the UN after a recommendation from the Indian government, by including dishes prepared using millets.

The restaurant owner also plans to launch another special thali dedicated to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar soon.

“We plan to launch this thali soon. I’m very positive that it’s going to gain popularity. Once this does well I also plan to launch a Dr Jaishankar Thali, because he too has that rockstar appeal amongst the Indian American community,” the owner said.

This isn’t the first time that PM Modi has had a special culinary offering dedicated to him. Ahead of his birthday on September 17 last year, a Delhi-based restaurant served up a thali named ‘56-inch Modi Ji’ Thali.

Prime Minister Modi will embark on his first state visit to the US at the invitation of President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden this month. During his four-day visit starting on June 21, the US president and the First Lady will host PM Modi for a state dinner on June 22.

Meanwhile, US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan will arrive in Delhi on June 13 for a two-day visit to discuss various issues, a week ahead of PM Modi’s US visit.
