With the third Test between India and England just around the corner, speculation is rife about the possible exclusion of wicket-keeper batter KS Bharat. According to reports, the team management is contemplating giving Dhruv Jurel an opportunity behind the stumps. Dissatisfaction with Bharat’s lackluster batting performance and subpar wicket-keeping skills has prompted consideration for a change.

Jurel’s noteworthy contributions for India A and in the IPL have garnered attention, leading the selection committee to reward him with a call-up to the Indian Test squad. The talented cricketer seems poised to make his Test debut.

“Bharat’s batting has been well below par, and his wicket-keeping hasn’t been up to the mark either. He isn’t capitalizing on his opportunities. Jurel, on the other hand, is talented, possesses a good attitude, and has a promising future. He has performed admirably for Uttar Pradesh, India A, and the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL. Don’t be surprised if Jurel makes his Test debut at Rajkot,” a source revealed to the Times of India.

There are also discussions about managing Jasprit Bumrah’s workload, and while he is expected to feature in the Rajkot Test, there is a possibility of resting him for the fourth match in Ranchi.

“He could be rested for the fourth Test in Ranchi, ensuring he is fresh and in top form for the fifth and final Test in Dharamshala in early March. That match could potentially be the series decider, and Bumrah’s presence will be crucial at that stage,” added the source.

The Indian team’s selection choices have raised eyebrows, including the inclusion of Akash Deep Singh while releasing Avesh Khan for the Ranji Trophy.

“The idea is to provide him with game time, which is why he has been asked to play for Madhya Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy. He hasn’t played in February so far. Akash Deep (his replacement) was picked because of his impressive performances for India A,” the source explained. “In any case, the pace-bowling duo for India in Rajkot will be Bumrah and Siraj,” the source concluded.
