20 Tourists From Kerala Stranded in Kalpa After Himachal Landslide

Kalpa, Himachal Pradesh: A group of 20 tourists from Kerala, along with five others from Tamil Nadu and Gujarat, remain stranded in Kalpa after heavy rains triggered landslides that blocked key roads. The group had been traveling to Spiti and was returning to Delhi when the disaster struck.

According to Jisan Sam Oommen, a social media influencer from Kochi, the group is concerned about the lack of medical facilities in the area. “Some members may soon run out of essential medicines. Kalpa is a remote village without hospitals, and in an emergency, we have no support,” he said.

The travelers had left Kalpa on August 25 but were forced to return when locals warned them that landslides had washed away stretches of the road ahead. They have since been staying in a local hotel, waiting for roads to reopen.

The group includes people from Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kasaragod, and Malappuram in Kerala, along with three from Tamil Nadu and two from Rajkot, Gujarat. One traveler relies on ambulance assistance, making the situation more difficult.

Persistent rains and recurring landslides continue to delay road clearance, leaving the group uncertain about when they will be able to travel to Shimla and catch their onward flight to Delhi. Jisan added that Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar and BJP leader Shone George have assured them of help.
