Thiruvananthapuram: A Congress leader has filed a complaint against former minister and CPM leader Kadakampally Surendran. The complaint alleges that he misbehaved with a former staff member of the UAE consulate.
M Muneer, vice-president of the Thiruvananthapuram District Congress Committee, gave the complaint to the state police chief. He said the woman earlier worked at the consulate and later with the IT department.
The woman had spoken to the media in 2022, saying Kadakampally forced her into unwanted phone conversations and invited her to a hotel. The complaint also said he often collected women’s phone numbers and spoke in an improper way.
These claims are similar to the earlier statements of Swapna Suresh, accused in the gold-smuggling case. She had said Kadakampally made advances toward her while she was working at the consulate. She told the media that she stands by her statement but will not comment on the new complaint.
Senior Congress leader M M Hassan said some party women leaders spoke too early against Rahul Mamkootathil. He said their remarks were personal and the party will take its decision together. Hassan also accused CM Pinarayi Vijayan of protecting leaders in his own front while asking Rahul to step down.
