Protests Lead to Restoration of Power Supply to Razakh’s House in Kozhikode

Youth Congress activists protest at the KSEB office in Thiruvambady, Kozhikode

In a dramatic turn of events, the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has restored power supply to Razakh Ullattil’s residence following widespread protests and governmental intervention. The situation unfolded after Razakh’s sons were accused of engaging in altercations and causing damage at the local KSEB office in Thiruvambadi.

Amid mounting public outcry and directives from Kozhikode Collector Snehil Kumar Singh, KSEB officials reinstated the electricity connection to Razakh Ullattil’s house at 8:35 pm on Sunday. This decision came after Electricity Minister K Krishnankutty stepped in to address the escalating tensions surrounding the issue.

Efforts to resolve the matter included a visit from the Thamarassery tahsildar, who attempted to broker an agreement. However, Razakh and his family refused to sign an affidavit expressing remorse and pledging non-violence towards KSEB staff in the future.

The controversy stemmed from allegations that Razakh’s sons, Ajmal and Shahadad, had been involved in physical altercations with KSEB personnel. This led to a series of retaliatory measures by KSEB, including the disconnection of electricity and demands for compensation.

According to KSEB officials, the decision to restore power was conditional upon assurances from Razakh regarding future conduct and adherence to legal procedures concerning the office attack incident. Despite these conditions, tensions remain palpable as legal proceedings continue to unfold.

The incident has sparked widespread community support, with protests organized by Youth Congress workers and condemnation from local politicians, including Forest Minister A K Saseendran.

Furthermore, the State Human Rights Commission has taken cognizance of the issue, registering a case against the disconnection of electricity to Razakh’s house and initiating a probe. This move underscores the gravity of the situation and the scrutiny it has drawn from various quarters.

As the saga continues, the residents and authorities in Kozhikode await further developments, hoping for a resolution that addresses both the legal ramifications and the community’s concerns.
