In Nagpur, an Audi owned by Sanket Bawankule, son of Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule, was involved in a major traffic accident early Monday morning. The incident occurred in the Ramdaspeth area, where the car collided with multiple vehicles, leading to the arrest of two occupants, including the driver.
The accident happened around 1 am when the Audi first struck the vehicle of complainant Jitendra Sonkamble and then collided with a moped, injuring two young riders. The car continued causing damage as it hit several more vehicles, including a Polo car.
After the Polo car’s occupants chased and stopped the Audi near the Mankapur bridge, three of the car’s occupants, including Sanket Bawankule, fled the scene. The arrested individuals, driver Arjun Hawre and Ronit Chittamwar, were taken to the Tehsil police station before being handed over to the Sitabuldi police for further investigation.
The Sitabuldi police have registered a case of rash driving and other offences based on Sonkamble’s complaint. The driver and Chittamwar were later released on bail. The blood samples of the driver and the arrested occupant have been sent for testing.
Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule confirmed that the Audi was registered in his son’s name. He called for a thorough and unbiased investigation, emphasizing that justice should be served impartially.
“The police should conduct a thorough and impartial investigation without any bias. Those found guilty must face appropriate charges,” Bawankule stated. He also noted that he has not personally contacted any police officials regarding the case.
