An extensive search operation was initiated by the police to trace the snatchers by affixing the pictures of the culprits in public places.
Kollam: The Kollam police has issued lookout notice for two youth who shook the city with six chain snatching incidents in just four hours on Saturday. The images of the perpetrators were retrieved from CCTV cameras and the special investigation team constituted has identified the loot to be carried in stolen motorcycle and crossed the State border in a car.
An extensive search operation was initiated by the police to trace the snatchers by affixing the pictures of the culprits in public places. The incident took place in broad daylight on Saturday in a series of chain snatching by keeping victims at gunpoint. Six such incidents took place in a short span of just four hours at various places in the city.
The Kollam East Police, that retrieved the CCTV visuals had started an investigation on the two youths who wore helmets and snatched chains in a motorcycle. The victims who gave statements said the duo also pointed a gun while snatching the chains.
It was later found that the ‘gun’ that was pointed at the victims was not a real one, but a drilling machine. Police has also found the motorcycle was stolen by the perpetrators from near the Kundara railway station, in an abandoned near town limit. The cases were reported at Pattathanam, Karbala junction, Beach road, Altharamukku, Mulavana, and Kuzhimathikkadu.
It has also been found that a Scorpio car bearing a Dehradun registration followed the motorcycle during the snatching incidents.
The Police team also received statements from autorickshaw drivers that the duo talked in Hindi. The team will extend the investigation to Dehradun to find the owner of the car used by the culprits.
