A video of a constable pulling a woman’s hair and kicking her during an anti-encroachment drive in Chhattisgarh’s Surajpur has surfaced on social media. The authorities are yet to comment on the use of force by the police personnel on the women.
A woman in Chhattisgarh was attacked by a police officer for protesting against an anti-encroachment drive in Surajpur district on Friday. In a video that is now making rounds on social media, a policeman was seen pulling a woman’s hair and kicking and pummeling her as she fell on the ground.
The ghastly scenes unfolded when policemen and local revenue officers reached Tilsiva village in the Surajpur district during an anti-encroachment drive. When police initiated action against the ‘encroached’ land, the villagers lodged a strong protest, prompting the cops to control the frenzied crowd, but in vain.
As the chaos unfolded, police personnel were seen dragging a few women from the protest site into a police van parked nearby. Visuals from the shocking video show a woman being forcefully dragged into a car by a female police officer.
At the same time, another constable grabbed the woman by her hair and kicked her on the ground in the presence of other police personnel. A young man then intervened and stopped the policeman, the video shows.
It is believed that the police officer who beat the woman is head constable Pradeep Upadhyay. When asked about the incident, Surajpur SP said he had no clue about it. The authorities are yet to comment on the use of force by the police personnel on the women.
“Some locals attacked the revenue officer during the anti-encroachment drive. We are probing the case,” said Additional Superintendent of Police, Surajpur, Madhulika Sharma.
