The Villupuram police have formed two special teams each headed by an Inspector to nab Kalaimani , 45, Correspondent of the Sathya Institute of Paramedical Sciences in Sankarapuram. He has been absconding ever since complaints that was harassing and exploiting girls from impoverished backgrounds were lodged.
The police have already arrested Sathya, the college principal and the wife of the accused, in this connection.
“We have zeroed in on the probable whereabouts of Kalaimani and one team has been sent to Nellore following inputs that he might be hiding there,” said a senior police official.
Police sources said the shocking incident of abuse came to light after a few girl students submitted a petition to the Collector’s personal secretary general Anusiya Devi last week on the continued harassment meted out to them.
The college, which claimed to be catering to the needs of girls from impoverished background, has over 150 students on its rolls. The girls enrolled under the Diploma in Medical Assistance course were sent to work as domestic help in households in Chennai instead of private hospitals.
An official said that the institute, which was sealed on orders by the District Collector last week, was found to act as a recruitment agency to employ girls in private households .
The students in their complaint to the Collector said that Kalaimani misbehaved with them in the classroom. He regularly abused the girls and also used foul language while addressing them, they alleged. Kalaimani also deducted the monthly salary of the girls employed at households on the pretext that he had provided them free education, according to the complainants.
