Monsoon Update: Heavy Rainfall Alert for Kerala Until July 21

Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a significant weather advisory for Kerala, indicating widespread rainfall across the state until July 21. The forecast includes heavy to very heavy showers expected at isolated places, prompting the issuance of an orange alert for 10 districts and a yellow warning for four southern districts.

The districts under the orange alert are Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod. Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, and Pathanamthitta are under a yellow warning, advising caution due to expected rain conditions.

IMD radar data from Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram shows accelerated monsoon winds along the Kerala coast, with speeds ranging from 45 to 65 km per hour. Hilly regions are particularly cautioned, and a high wave alert has been issued for Kannur, Kasaragod, and Kozhikode districts.

Fishermen are strongly advised against venturing into the sea during this period to ensure safety amid the turbulent weather conditions.
