Last Thursday, the Carnival Spirit encountered a chunk of ice while sailing through Alaska’s Tracy Arm Fjord. Despite the dramatic event, the ship sustained no damage, and a thorough inspection confirmed its safety. The cruise continued without delay.
The incident was notable enough for some passengers to draw comparisons with the Titanic. Passenger Cassandra Goskie, in a private Facebook group, referred to the moment as a “Titanic moment,” capturing the tension in a video where she exclaims, “Oh, we are hitting it.”
Another passenger, April Futrell, shared photos on X (formerly Twitter) of the Carnival Spirit navigating through icy waters. Despite the striking visuals, the ship proceeded safely towards its destination.
The Carnival Spirit continued its 7-day voyage as scheduled, with no operational impacts reported. The cruise line reassured passengers that the ship was unharmed by the ice collision.
A tugboat was spotted assisting the Carnival Spirit as it moved through the icy waters. One image shows the tugboat trailing behind, highlighting the ship’s smooth navigation despite the challenging conditions.
The Carnival Spirit is set to complete its 14-day round-trip Alaska cruise, with a scheduled arrival in Seattle on September 24. The voyage began on September 10 and has been proceeding without further incidents.
The cruise line confirmed that all safety protocols were followed and that the incident did not affect the overall schedule or passenger experience.
